Enable FTP File Sharing
Using FTP file sharing, you can setup an FTP server on your android device. Then you can connect and access the files on your device using any FTP client from computer wirelessly, without data cable.
You need to enable FTP File Sharing before accessing shared folder on your device. Please make sure your device is inside LAN environment and WIFI is turned on(also works when your device is used as hotspot), and then follow the steps below:
1. Click "Network" button from file manager toolbar to open network activity. | |
2. Then click "Share" button from network activity toolbar to launch FTP file sharing configuration page. |
The FTP file sharing configuration page is like following:
Root Directory: The root folder of your FTP files sharing. FTP client can only access the files under this folder. By default this folder is the external storage to your device.
User Name/Password/Anonymous: Authentication settings. The FTP file sharing can be public or user name/password protected.
Start: Click "start" button to start FTP file sharing service. When the service is running, the user interface will change to following and the other configuration settings will be disabled:
Stop: Click "stop" button to stop FTP file sharing service. You also need to stop the service first when you want to change the root directory or authentication settings.
Access Link: The URL to your FTP file sharing service. Commonly it contains ip address and port number. Authentication information is not included in the link but is required when connect.
Access FTP File Sharing
There is multiple ways to access FTP File Sharing.
1. FTP Client
It is suggested to use an FTP client application to access the shared files on your device. If you do not have one, File Zilla is a good choice since it is full-featured, free and cross-platform.
2. Operation System File Explorer
You can use built-in File Explorer to access shared files. Take Mac OS X as example:
3. Web Browser
You can use web browser to access shared files, but it is not recommended. Using this way, you can read or download shared files, but cannot add or delete them. Take Chrome as example:
